From September 5 to October 4, 2026, my work will be on display during a special art exhibition at Huis van Waalwijk. A beautiful location in my hometown, where I have the opportunity to present my work as an artist from Waalwijk. For me, that makes this exhibition extra special.

Huis van Waalwijk will once again be dedicated to art this month. Together with artist Marja Voets and the resident artists of Huis van Waalwijk, a diverse exhibition will be presented. As a guest artist, I will have my own space within the exhibition.

Art in Waalwijk

I work from my studio in Waalwijk, and although my paintings are now being exhibited in different places across the Netherlands, it remains special to present my work in my own surroundings.

My work focuses on people, and especially on what lies behind a face or a pose. Portrait art, contrast, strength and vulnerability are important themes throughout my work.

In my paintings, I combine different materials and techniques, including Indian ink, charcoal, paint, texture and gold leaf. Sometimes a work begins as a carefully detailed portrait, while at other times I deliberately leave room for movement, spontaneity and experimentation.

This contrast can also be seen in the works presented during this exhibition.

Strength and Contrast

Contrast is an important part of my visual language. Black and white against colour. Precise, graphic lines alongside soft and organic shapes. Roughness versus refinement. And strength versus vulnerability.

Layering also plays an important role. Not only literally, through the different materials and textures I use, but also in the meaning behind my work. I want to create paintings that continue to reveal something new the longer you look at them.

A painting may first catch your attention through its colour, composition or a powerful gaze. But then I hope you stay a little longer and begin to discover new details.

That is what I want to achieve with my free work: not simply to create a portrait, but to create an image that evokes something in the viewer.

From Ink Portraits to Paintings with Gold Leaf

During the exhibition at Huis van Waalwijk, I will show different sides of my artistic practice. Visitors will be able to see both powerful ink portraits and more layered paintings incorporating colour, texture and gold leaf.

Although the techniques and appearances of the works may differ, there is a clear connection between them. The human figure, the gaze and the tension between being visible and being seen remain recurring elements in my work.

My paintings are figurative, but at the same time I aim to go beyond simply depicting a person. I look for emotion, character and presence.

An Exhibition in My Hometown

Having my work exhibited at Huis van Waalwijk feels like a wonderful next step. Waalwijk is where I live, work and have my studio. It is the place from which I have been developing my career as an artist and portrait painter for many years.

The past year has brought several special moments in my artistic journey. My work was selected for the Kunstprijs Waalwijk, and in March 2026 I won ArtBattle Amsterdam.

That makes it even more meaningful to now present my free work once again in Waalwijk.
