About Laura Boudesteijn

Laura Boudesteijn (1991) is a visual artist based in Waalwijk, the Netherlands. Since graduating from the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) in 2014, she has specialized in portraiture with a contemporary, expressive style.

At the heart of her work lies the human figure, not only in its physical form but also in the emotional presence beneath the surface. Her portraits capture deeply personal atmospheres, often rooted in memory or meaningful moments. This gives her work an intimate, recognizable quality that resonates with her audience.

Over the past few years, Laura’s practice has grown steadily, in part thanks to sharing her evolving work on social media. She now works from her own studio on a variety of commissions, while also developing a more personal visual language that embraces experimentation, spontaneity and contrast.

Her style can be described as modern and intuitive, allowing for chance to play a role in the creative process. She enjoys exploring diverse techniques and letting the medium guide her. One of her major sources of inspiration is South African artist Marlene Dumas, whose emotionally charged work continues to influence Laura’s artistic path.
